biggest snowfall ever...in georgia

i grew up here and i remember the ice storm of 1973. we lived in lithonia at norris lake and were without power for a week. we lived in the downstairs of the house b/c it had a fireplace and we buried our food in the snow. the lake froze over around the edges and we were out of school but that was the only cool thing really. this time, it was snow, sierra cement mind you, but still it piled up. we called the heavy wet snow sierra cement out west in tahoe b/c it formed a perfect base to support the rest of the season's snowfall IF you got it early on. here in georgia, we just called it snow. and it was awesome. i was a total naysayer, snow snob, not believing after all the rain we'd had that anything would stick or accumulate. 4 hours later i was out measuring the inches as they progressed from 4 to 6 to over 8! right in my very own backyard. sweet. quickly converted, i ran to the shed and dug our my snowshoes and ski gloves and such to play. all my neighbors were out in the street, dogs running everywhere, it was mayhem. poor suckers stuck on sunset in the snowbanks, dont know why they didnt just get out and play with us. we asked 'em to. the next day it stayed cold but the skies cleared and gave us a perfect bluebird day. if i'da been in tahoe, you couldn't got me off the slopes. but i maxed out every second of the white out. charlie and i were grillin, chillin, and sunnin, on the back deck. i even studied a little when things quietened down. my neighbor was having a birthday in the middle of all this so there were a few celebrations. one friend was missing and he didnt have snow at all at his place, so that was a bummer, but that was the only thing missing. i might even make it without skiing this winter just from the charge i got outta 8 inches of snow in georgia in march.
